Clip: Surfing Great Kelly Slater Sees His Children's Book for the First Time
In between surfing, hip surgery, narrating a Julian Assange movie, competing on the 2024 Championship Tour as a wildcard, and getting Surf Abu Dhabi up and running, Kelly Slater found time for the kids and the earth.
As we recently reported, the 11-time world champ collaborated with a second grade class to create a children's book called Keep Our Beaches Clean! What if Everyone Did That?
In the video below, Slater receives a box of the books and sees them for the first time.

"Kelly Slater is proud of Ms. Keyser’s (Worcester County Public Schools MD) second-grade class, and so are we!
"This delightful book, created by a passionate class of second graders and in collaboration with professional surfer Kelly Slater @kellyslater, emphasizes the importance of taking care of the beaches and oceans we live near.

Seeing the book for the first time, Slater says:
"Keep Our Beaches Clean, my first view of the book we did with the kids.
"Super excited to get this. MacKenzie, Mrs. Kaiser, the teacher, thank you for making this happen, and congratulations to all the kids who were able to publish their first book in elementary and middle school.
"I'm super proud of all these kids and I'm super glad this happened. We did a Zoom call and we were able to come up with this idea after talking a few times to make a book and to clean up the beaches and adopt the beaches in their local area.
"Anyone can do that, so get your kids out there picking up trash and coming up with solutions in this complicated world we have going forward."
According to the publisher's website:
"In this simple and creative book, created by a passionate class of second graders and in collaboration with professional surfer Kelly Slater, we emphasize the importance of taking care of the beaches and oceans we live near."
The book's available for pre-order now and is set to be released on April 16.
