Colonial Heights: Mega model train show for all ages, two weekends, LEGO City returns
COLONIAL HEIGHTS — All aboard the mega model train show at Keystone Truck and Tractor Museum. The next two weekends, Richmond Freelance & Prototype [RF&P] Model Railroaders will present a 9,000 square foot showcase of O, HO and N scale trains. In celebration of America's titans of transportation, ticket holders will also get to view 130,000-plus square feet of trucks, tractors, cars and more.
Model railroading is building miniature worlds in the palms of your hands. Veteran hobbyists with nearly 50 years of wildly popular shows are “trained to be on track” with everything from the fun and whimsical to the realistic and prototypical. Train enthusiasts from one to 102 will find their eyes feasting on the wonders of locomotion.

At the model railroading event, Sailor Bob’s Griggs Valley Railroad as seen on TV will be on display. The RichBrick LEGO City model railroad will return again as well. Also, check out Menardville by River City 3 Railers and Mystery Mountain by Richmond Area NTRAK to solve a puzzle.
Individuals could spend hours in the museum reminiscing. Folks may have a hard time picking just one favorite truck, tractor or automobile. A few of them include the following: EL TURBO, a 1949 Peterbilt West Coast Super Truck with over 6 million miles, a 1950 Ford Virginia State Police car, the first year of the gray and blue, and a 1938 Minneapolis-Moline UDLX Tractor, the very first American tractor ever made with a cab. Only 125 were made.
The huge, amazing layouts will be featured by Richmond Freelance & Prototype Model Railroaders, home to HO Scale VP&C Model Railroaders, N Scale BR&W RR and the Richmond Area NTRAK Model Railroaders, and special interest groups for the River City 3 Railers and Richmond Area T-TRAK.
As you wander around the museum, you will also come across vintage toys, tools, bottle collections and more. The restaurant inside the museum is open seven days a week. They serve breakfast and lunch.
The model train event on July 20-21 and July 27-28 is included with the price of museum admission: $15 adults, $14 veterans, seniors [62 and older] $14, active military and students [ages 6-17] $10, and free for children five and under. The museum is open seven days a week 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The last admission is one hour before closing. The Keystone Truck and Tractor Museum is across from Southpark Mall conveniently located at 880 West Roslyn Road off I-95 at exit 53 in Colonial Heights. For more information, call the museum at 804-524-0020. If you're looking for something to do inside during the hot summer, check out the cool, "cool" museum.
