Comcast Is Giving Everyone Free Internet Access in Florida During Hurricane Irma
Thanks to cable and internet provider Comcast, free internet access across Florida will be available through Sept. 15 to help residents and emergency personnel stay connected during Hurricane Irma.
More than 137,000 of the company's Xfinity WiFi hotspots throughout the state will be open to anyone who needs them, including non-Xfinity customers.
"For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, which are located both indoors and outdoors in places such as shopping districts, parks and businesses, please visit Xfinity.com/wifi," the release said, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Once you are in range of a hotspot, select the "xfinitywifi" network name in the list of available networks. Xfinity internet customers can sign in with their usernames and passwords. Non-Xfinity internet subscribers should click "Not an Xfinity Internet Customer" and will be able to renew their complimentary sessions every two hours.
"We know it's critically important for everyone to have a means of communication at their disposal before, during and after a storm with the potential impact of Hurricane Irma," Amy Smith, senior vice president for Comcast's Florida Region, said in a statement.
