This company wants to pay someone $1K to unplug in an RV for a weekend
With social apps like Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter and Zoom becoming an even bigger part of our lives by the second, a website is offering money to someone longing for a taste of yesteryear.
SatelliteInternet.com, which helps provide rural areas with internet options, has announced the Digital Detox Challenge, in which they are offering to pay $1,000 to one person willing to disconnect for a whole weekend in an RV at a U.S. National Park.
“Have you found yourself gazing down at your phone’s screen time report asking, ‘I spent how much time scrolling through social media?’” the announcement said. “More of us than ever are working and staying at home during the pandemic. This means we’re logging far more screen time than usual, leading to ‘Zoom fatigue’ and less time staying active.”
The company will select one person at random who will be given $400 upfront to pay the cost of renting the RV along with a mobile hotspot to share their experience — after the two nights without a phone, of course. Satellite Internet will reimburse the winner the aforementioned expenses and, upon completion of the challenge, they will also give them the remaining $600.
“The catch is that you won’t be able to capture Instagram-worthy shots on your phone or tweet about how fresh the smell of pine is — no technology allowed beyond what you need to reach your destination safely (at least until the third night),” the company wrote.
Interested? Applicants, who must be 25 years or older and allowed to drive in all 50 states, should fill out this short form.
A winner will be announced Sept. 23.
