A Controversial Costco Food Court Item May Be Disappearing Soon—Here's What You Need to Know
Costco
If there's one thing we can always count on, it's Costco’s trusty food court. Fans have long expressed their love for the chain’s café, with one going as far as throwing a themed birthday party in honor of the warehouse giant.
Whether you stop in for the pizza, strawberry ice cream, or a refreshing berry smoothie, you’re sure to find something to satisfy your craving and snag a great deal while you’re at it. As incredible as the wholesale grocer's food court is though, it hasn’t been without its fair share of controversy.
In recent years, Costco has made changes to its cafe-style menu, and those changes haven’t always gone over well with fans. In what can best be described as combo-gate, the retailer famously discontinued the fan-favorite combo pizza, and the internet collectively reacted. Spurring dedicated Reddit threads and even a change.org petition, the famous slice of pie has officially reached icon status as consumers grapple with the loss almost three years later.
Another controversial move by the chain was the release of a roast beef sandwich priced unusually high at a whopping $10. For context, you can purchase an entire pizza at Costco’s food court for the same price. Though enjoyed by some fans, the retailer has seemed to hear the concerns of fans and, if rumors are true, is reevaluating its offerings. And as a result, it looks like the savory sandwich may be getting the ax next.

Originally posted on Reddit, user hpick627 shared news of the rumored discontinuation, writing, “Heard from one of my managers that the sandwich will be getting the ax here soon. More than likely due to poor sales.”
Users quickly shared their experiences, with more than one revealing their disdain for the item in question. “Who at Costco thought people would pay that much!? And onion relish on it? Why is that a thing? I took one look at it and laughed. That's 4 hot dogs, 2 slices of pizza, and 4 drinks for the same price.” wrote one user. Another pondered whether this was simply an experiment stating, “$10 sandwich that does not even come with a drink? Feels like market research.”
One person who seems to work for Costco added to the post to hopefully clear up the confusion writing, "Roast beef will be a rotated item. Similar to the smoothies. It will be back." Going on to the sales for the sandwich are "just fine," the poster noted that "The rumors say they are looking at other types of sandwiches. ??I just hope it is the hot turkey provolone, though I doubt it??"
Whatever the case, we’re likely to receive confirmation soon, and regardless of the outcome, we’ll still make our weekly beeline to the counter for one of those delicious hot dogs.
