Corn-flavored ice cream with pork roll, blueberries back at LBI ice cream shop

If New Jersey was an ice cream flavor, it would be "The Jerz" from The WooHoo on Long Beach Island.

The ice cream, which is made only in the summer when two of its ingredients are in season, starts with cobs of fresh corn. They are stripped of their kernels and soaked overnight in cream, which is used to make the base of the ice cream.

"This is where we get a lot of our flavor," said owner Megan Kilroy, who created "The Jerz" a few years ago at her Beach Haven shop. "It makes it like a little bit of a sweeter, corn-based ice cream."

Once the corn-flavored cream is churned into ice cream, it's layered with swirls of housemade blueberry sauce and bits of Taylor pork roll that's been caramelized with brown sugar.

"We call it pork roll. I know there's a lot of debate on that, but we have it on our sign, whatever you want to call it, you can call it here," Kilroy told CBS News for a feature on the flavor.

"The Jerz" will be available for the next two or three weeks, she said. The WooHoo also wholesales ice cream, including its New Jersey-centric flavor, across the state.

Other fun WooHoo flavors include spicy strawberry lemonade, strawberry s'mores, cosmic brownie and coconut milk-based frozen hot chocolate.
