Costco Just Dropped Its Wildly Popular Wine Advent Calendar Early, and Shoppers Are Stocking Up

You may have heard rumblings about flight delays and travel snafus this year. Well, Costco's new travel-themed Wine Advent Calendar is bucking the trend. The best part? The calendar is hitting shelves early this year — as in, you can get it now (or will be able to soon).

First spotting the popular calendar in their local store, Instagram creator @costcontessa shared her excitement about the re-arrival of the coveted item. "Costco Wine Advent Calendar is back — it’s called Wine Passport this year — around the world in 24 wines — it’s the same concept — variety of 24 half bottles ???? and it’s still $99.99!"

The packaging is a departure from the "Wine Advent-ure" look of previous years that often featured images of cars and wrapped gifts. Instead, this year, the calendar delivers more of a passport vibe.

That said, as some people crave familiarity and tradition during the holidays, there may be a feeling of disappointment in the change. If that happens to be how you feel, you can still snag the "Take a Wine Adventure" 24-box with the same bottles if that's what you fancy, on the manufacturer's — Flying Blue Imports — website. There's also a 12-wine option with half the half bottles available, too.

Costco's new passport-style Wine Advent Calendar, however, is serving up the best of both worlds as shoppers will still get the same 24 half bottles of wine from around the globe, but with an updated look. Sip red, white and rosé varietals from lauded wine regions like Italy, France, Chile, Romania and Spain. (For people looking for a shorter but still worthwhile adventure, there's also a version with 12 half-bottles this year.)

While you (sadly) can't try these vinos before you buy them as you can with Costco's controversial food samples, prospective "travelers" can scan a QR code to see the entire collection with tasting notes to get a better idea of what's inside the Costco Wine Calendar.

Perhaps the best part? Costco decided to buck another 2023 trend by not raising the price of its annual Advent Wine Calendar. Meaning, you can still snag the box of 24 wines for $99.99. We crunched the numbers so you didn't have to, and that turns out to be less than $4.50 per half bottle. Unreal, right? (You'll have to check your local warehouse for the price tag of the 12-pack.)

Now, if it feels like it was just yesterday that we were celebrating the return of pumpkin things at Costco, it's because that's literally true. However, the early bird gets the wine at Costco. And since the advent calendars get harder and harder to come by as the season approaches, you'll want to make a move on these ASAP.  Perhaps the biggest challenge for early Costco Wine Advent Calendar buyers though, is not imbibing before December 1.
