Costco's New 'Unreasonably Rich' Food Court Item Is Receiving Mixed Reviews from Customers

When it comes to choosing a New Year's resolution, some are more popular than others. There are the usual suspects — working out and saving money — and then there’s the lofty goal to have just one more cookie (okay, maybe two.) Although it’s always great to eat a little bit better, nothing says you can’t simultaneously enjoy a delectable morsel of baked dough (or, in the case of Trader Joe’s, hundreds of teeny tiny ones.)

If you’re looking to satisfy your ravenous New Year cookie cravings, there’s only one place to turn (and it’s not Crumbl). Bulk grocer Costco has long been a fan-favorite destination for its impossible-to-beat deals, better-than-average gas prices, and, more importantly, its legendary food court. The retailer’s food court hasn’t gone without its share of criticism, however, and its latest menu addition has stirred up quite the debate on the dedicated Costco-themed subreddit.

The treat in question is a massive chocolate chip cookie that’s retailing for just $2.50. It’s been speculated that this particular dessert could be a replacement for the retail giant’s churro, but the retailer hasn’t officially confirmed those reports. Though the cookie hasn’t made its way to every Costco yet, a few shoppers spotted the confection at their local store, and the reviews have started pouring in.

According to the u/Impossible_Cow_1978, the cookie is “thick, extremely dense and loaded with chocolate.” In addition to commenting on the size of the cookie — which the user described as “not small” but also “not particularly large” — the shopper lamented the fact that the cookie is “not worth the 750 calories” nor is it “worth the $2.50.” While the user did express that the overall consistency is “perfect,” they didn’t seem too impressed with the taste, saying it was “unreasonably rich.”

It didn’t take long for others to respond to the incredibly thorough review with hot takes of their own. Regarding the price point, one person said it “isn’t that bad for a cookie that looks to be about the size of your hand.” While another admitted, “I’ll obviously try one, but $2.50 seems a little high.”

Well, folks, it seems the verdict is still out on the newly released sweet, but shout out to Costco for helping us achieve our goal of eating more cookies. If you’re still on the fence, it’s probably best to make your own judgment and try one for yourself. For those of you that are team churro and opt to make your own cookies at home, King Arthur Baking just announced their 2024 recipe of the year, and it might just be the best chocolate chip cookie ever.
