Couch-Parker Show at Art on the Square Gallery
Jun. 30—GREENSBURG — Margaret Couch's paintings and stained glass created by Ed Parker are on display now through the end of July at Art on the Square Gallery.
Parker has been working with glass since 1984. He took a brief pause after retirement, but began again in 2005 with the remodel of his kitchen cabinet door inserts.
He is part of an online international glass group and gets advice and supplies at Classic Stained Glass in North Vernon. He's also made many trips to Kokomo's Opalescent Glass manufacturing plant for supplies because he believes selecting the glass in person is very important.
Many of Couch's painting are of scenes from around Decatur County.
She enjoys evening bike rides with her husband, Ed Parker, near their home in the Kingston countryside to look for interesting locations to photograph. State parks and vacation trips are also a source of inspiration for her.
Included with this show is a display of selected preliminary drawing studies from photographs she uses to plan her paintings.
Couch uses water mixable oil paints that allow for soap and water cleanup without harsh mineral spirits.
Art on the Square Gallery hosted a light beverage and snack reception for the artists and the public on June 21.
Art on the Square Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
