WATCH: This Country Music Power Couple Is Naming Their Baby After a Southern City
Jason Aldean may be a Georgia boy, but his son’s baby name tips its hat to The Volunteer State.
In a recent interview, Aldean—who is expecting his first son with wife Brittany later this fall—opened up to Lon Helton on Westwood One’s Country Countdown USA about the baby naming process. “I’ve kinda been infatuated with Elvis since I was a kid, just always watching documentaries and stuff on him,” explained Aldean. Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis and his family moved to Memphis when Elvis was in the 8th grade. There, he built his larger-than-life musical career and settled at Graceland.
“I’m sure he’s gonna meet people with the name Memphis—he won’t be the only one, but, you know, at least I think it’s unique enough where...it won’t be like Michael or John or, you know, Jason.”
For Southerners, of course, the name Memphis pays homage to the birthplace of rock and roll (and, arguably, the South’s best fried chicken). But Memphis also harkens back to the ancient Egyptian city near the mouth of the Nile River. The Biblical baby name means “Abode of the good.”
As for the baby’s middle name? Aldean fessed up that they’ve settled on “Aldine.” “His middle name will be Aldine, because that’s my middle name,” Adlean said. “I want to carry that name on. It was my grandfather’s name. So it’s kind of a family name. So that’s what we’re going with.” (Aldean’s birth name is Jason Aldine Williams.)
Meanwhile the Alabama Crimson Tide lovin’ mama-to-be looks radiant in recent photos as she moves along in her third trimester. We’re wishing all the best for the Aldean’s and the happy and healthy arrival of their newborn.
And if little Memphis gets a younger sibling? Team Macon all the way!
