CTAC to host an evening with artist Christen Humphries
Apr. 7—The works of a local artist will grace an art gallery with nature this month.
The Chisholm Trail Arts Council (CTAC) will host an evening with Comanche artist, Christen Humphries, Thursday, April 11. Humphries' artwork will join a number of flourishing artists who have filled the walls with art at the CTAC Art Gallery.
The gallery will open with an artist reception for Humphries from 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 11 at the CTAC Art Gallery.
CTAC Executive Director Darcy Reeves said the exhibit will bring over 100 pieces of Humphries' artwork.
"Humphries, from Comanche, brings amazing pieces of 'journaling' to the gallery," she said. "Some pieces are from 2019 and up to current year of 2024."
Reeves said Humphries' larger art pieces are "breathtaking."
"Many of those have a focal point of interest tucked into a larger scene," Reeves said. "The attention to detail is amazing."
For this gallery, Reeves said Humphries' primary choice of medium for her pieces displayed include charcoal, Gouache, egg tempera, graphite and watercolor.
Humphries, a Comanche native, graduated from Cameron University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in art in 2003 and moved onto Texas Woman's University to obtain a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2009.
After moving around for a few years, Humphries settled back in Oklahoma in 2009.
"I now live in the country home my family moved to when I was just turning ten," Humphries said. "It is on a hill surrounded by wheat fields and pastureland and the woods are never far away when I need the companionship of trees."
Humphries credits the ability to embrace nature to get through life and she illustrates it in her artwork.
"Trees and old houses become figures and birds keep your secrets in my paintings and drawings," she said. "I choose to work in black, white and grey with hints of color. This gives a timeless, peaceful quality to my work."
The exhibit will remain open and on sale through May 30.
The artist exhibit is free to attend and open to the public during regular business hours. Hours of operation are from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The CTAC Gallery is located at 810 W. Walnut Ave. in Duncan. For more information, call 580-252-4160.
