Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam granted Cyntoia Brown clemency on Monday, commuting her life sentence for murder and making her eligible for an early release from prison. Now others who helped to publicize her case and push it forward, including Kim Kardashian, are celebrating the decision.

Brown, now 30 years old, was just 16 when she shot and killed real estate agent Johnny Mitchell Allen in 2004 after he hired her as a prostitute. She claimed she was a victim of sex trafficking but was tried as an adult and sentenced to life in prison, with eligibility for parole at age 69. More than a decade after the sentencing, however, celebrities caught wind of what seemed to them to be a great injustice and took to their own social media accounts to start a conversation about Brown.

Just over one year later, Brown was told she’ll be released on parole come Aug. 7, and these celebrities are speaking out again.

Many thanked Haslam for granting Brown clemency just over a week from his term’s end, while some suggested that it’s time to find another victim of the justice system to free next to keep the momentum of criminal justice reform rolling.

Back in June, Alice Marie Johnson was granted clemency by President Trump after Kim Kardashian visited the White House days to discuss prison reform with the president and spotlight Johnson’s case.
