Danny DeVito Has ‘Turned Into Quite the Master Gymnast’ With Daily Trampoline Exercises
Though Danny DeVito continues to get older, he's staying in great shape thanks to his meticulous super-strength health rituals and rigorous trampoline workouts that he practices day after day.
"He may look short and pudgy, but he's actually in good condition thanks to these bouncy exercises," an insider exclusively tells Closer of the actor, who will celebrate his 80th birthday on November 17.
Last year, when Danny was starring in the Broadway play I Need That alongside daughter Lucy DeVito, he revealed in an interview with GQ that he would always get to the theater early to bounce up and down on his trampoline.
"I start every night with it to get myself going," he said. "I guess you would call it exercise, but it's like getting ready to go out."
Since then, according to Closer's source, "He's turned into quite the master gymnast. Trampolines have been around for decades and used in a variety of ways from training Navy pilots during WWII, and it's always been a fun thing for kids to do. These days it's been beneficial for seniors, too, because it allows them to move, and it's easy on the joints."
The nightly routine at the Broadway theater continued long after the show closed in December 2023.
"It's part of Danny's daily ritual," the source reveals. "He'll spend at least 15 minutes on his trampoline, bobbing up and down, to increase circulation and sharpen his mental skills. He's been doing it for a while, and it's why he's stayed so flexible."
That's not all he's doing to stay perky, though. The actor is watching what he eats to make sure he remains in tip-top shape.
"He's added more fish and veggies to his diet, though he does enjoy the occasional steak or pasta dish," the source shares. "Getting plenty of shuteye is another reason why Danny has such a healthy attitude toward life. For Danny, 80 is the new 40."
The Matilda star has been keeping himself busy. Later this month, Prime Video will release the upcoming docuseries Game 7, on which Danny serves as executive producer.
"I'm a sports enthusiast in kind of a weird way," he told People in an interview published last week. "Most of my friends just watch it all the time and go to games."
He added, "I only do it when it's the playoffs, I need the rush."
As to why he's excited about the series, he explained, "There's nothing like a game seven. … Maybe you're out there on the wing or you're about to ask for your girlfriend's hand in marriage and you've got to walk through that door and talk to her father — that's a game seven."
According to Amazon, "Game 7 brings the two greatest words in sports to life in a new five-part anthology series. With first-hand accounts from both the winning and losing athletes that participated in these high-stakes showdowns, each episode goes behind the scenes to revisit the most iconic moments of the most memorable games in history."
The new anthology series will premiere on October 22.
