Denver PrideFest plans to divert 50% of waste
DENVER (KDVR) — Denver PrideFest is going green in 2024 and will feature several new sustainability initiatives, including 150 new recycling bins on the festival grounds, according to the event’s hosts, the Center on Colfax.
The goal of the move, along with other initiatives, is to reach 50% waste diversion, according to a release.

The recycling bins will be put alongside trash cans. The new recycling bins will be funded by Southwest Airlines, which is the festival’s sustainability sponsor.
The festival, which is celebrating its 50th year, will also partner with environmentalist and drag queen Pattie Gonia to increase knowledge of the initiatives.
Pattie Gonia will feature on Center Stage as a headliner and will encourage attendees to recycle using the on-site containers, according to the release.
“Partnering with Southwest Airlines and Pattie Gonia represents a significant step forward in Denver PrideFest’s ongoing efforts to reduce waste and increase sustainability,” said Rex Fuller, the CEO of the Center on Colfax.
The center said PrideFest would also have:
Water trailers to fill reusable water bottles to cut down on the use of single-use plastics
Reusable cups for all mixed drinks in the VIP area
A move toward serving drinks in recyclable aluminum cans
Recyclable container requirements for all food vendors
PrideFest will take place at Civic Center Park on Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
