I enjoy talking about the weather. I’m not sure if it’s a topic that makes me appear “old” or something with which to make mindless conversation, but for me, weather equals fashion talk. Hear me out: We dress for the weather; the weather influences exactly what we step out in—the shoes, the clothes, and even the accessories. So yes, I’m going to talk about weather, because it’s directly related to what we see on the sartorial scene, which is why Diane Keaton’s latest look is so essential.

It was hot just a few days ago in New York City, so people were wearing shorts and mini dresses and more of those quintessential summer pieces, but to everyone's surprise, Monday and, now, Tuesday, felt like fall, which meant a sudden wardrobe switch—that some might not have been ready for. However, if you travel 2,500 miles or so to L.A., it seems Keaton was more ready for the chilly weather than I (and maybe you), as she stepped out in the most fall-like look I’m itching to recreate for my dinner tonight.

Keaton wore an all-black look that was totally in line with New York dressing. Nevertheless, she was in sunny Los Angeles, wearing a black turtleneck, blazer, chunky combat boots, and last but certainly not least, the only pants trend you need to know about: billowy black trousers.

If you want to make the wardrobe switch from summer to fall easy, peasy, black trousers are your answer. The breezy bottoms are totally wearable this time of year, when temperatures can be chilly in the morning and blistering hot in the afternoon; that’s because the loose-fitting silhouette allows for ample airflow. However, the long hemline and styling versatility also make them ideal for fall. Pair them with a coordinating turtleneck like Keaton for a chic look you can wear from day to night with ease.

What’s more, I think of my black trousers as my power pants; whenever I wear them, I feel pretty darn invincible #bossgirlunlocked. They’re elegant! They're refined! But they’re also cool, casual, and nonchalant, and not to mention, ideal for all ages. Keaton shows they work for her, and in the past, celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway, and more have shown their affinity for the closet staple.

Black trousers are a must for now and, well, ever. So shop some more standout styles below and unlock your inner #boss.
