Wait, Betty May Have Killed Jughead of "Riverdale"
Warning: This post contains spoilers for Riverdale season 4 episode 9.
All season long (actually, since last season), Riverdale has been teasing a big twist ending, one that culminates in the murder of Jughead Jones. Every few weeks we get a little hint regarding Jug's fate, but this week's clue may have been the most telling of all.
At the end of episode 9, we finally get to see Jughead’s “dead” body (I’m still not convinced, sorry). Archie feels for a heartbeat, confirms there is none and then turns to Betty, asking her what she has done, and all Betty can do is look down at her blood covered hands and the rock she’s holding.
So, it’s obvious now that the Riverdale writers want us to believe that Betty killed Jughead. But did she really do it? Or is it all part of an elaborate twist?
After watching this episode, it’s definitely possible that the “darkness” Betty has been dealing with for the past few years could have gotten the best of her and she took it out on Jughead. Or maybe, someone said “tangerine” to her three times, turning her homicidal and in a fit of rage—which she won’t remember after the fact—she killed Jug.
Right now, the evidence points to that. But I STILL can’t imagine that the show would kill off Jughead, so I will continue to believe in crazy theories that explain his “death.” Maybe, Jughead wanted people to think he died for some reason, and he enlisted Betty to help with his plan. Or, maybe my favorite theory is true and it’s not Jug who is dead, but his twin, played by Dylan Sprouse, of course.
I just don’t see why the writers would kill off such a major, loved character? And why would Cole Sprouse leave the show? He doesn't seem to have any other projects lined up on IMDB, and Riverdale is still going strong four season in, pretty much guaranteeing at least a fifth season. Plus, he gets to work with his girlfriend, which is a pretty sweet deal I don't see him giving up any time soon.
We still have a while to go until our questions are answered. The flashback at the end of tonight’s episode takes place four weeks in the future, which could line up pretty perfectly with the show’s midseason finale. Maybe then we will finally get some answers.
