This Doctor Just Came Out As A Trans Woman And The Internet Is Celebrating With Her
On Friday June 12, Evelyn Carroll, MD shared a tweet celebrating that she showed up to her job for the first time as her "authentic self"—a trans woman.
The doctor previously shared her journey transitioning, as well as her fears.
Hundreds have rushed to the comments to express their support and admiration for Evelyn and many are celebrating her bravery, making the tweet go viral.
If you're a minority, a person of color, or a member of the LGBTQ community, then you know how tough it can be to bring your authentic self to work. There's often an underlying fear that you'll be judged, stereotyped, or worse, fired. Doctor Evelyn Carroll, MD, pushed past her own fears and opened up about her trans journey in a recent Twitter post, which is gaining tons of positive attention and celebratory praise.
The MD, who recently came out as a trans woman, just shared two side-by-side images of herself—one of her badge at the Mayo Clinic and the other a new selfie. Carroll captioned the photos, "Brought my authentic self to work for the first time in my life! It felt so good to just 'be me.'"
Many of her followers rushed to the comments to celebrate Carroll's bravery. One commenter wrote, "A queen!!!!" Another said, "Isn’t it a joy just to be and live your truth. You’re amazing and congrats." And one more added, "The smile, the dimples, you are glowing YESSS YESSS! Congratulations!"
Just last week, Carroll detailed her gender transition journey in a separate thread on Twitter, explaining how difficult it was for her to go from gender dysmorphia to where she is today.
Carroll went on to say, "Transitioning to my authentic self has been by far the most difficult thing I have ever done and I have a long way to go. But just being myself when I was able to this year has never felt easier and so freeing."
Carroll also said that she's never felt so aligned with her inner sense of self. "And, I cannot possibly describe just how incredible it feels to not have to hide anymore. My name is Evelyn and I’m a woman," the radiologist ended the thread.
Congratulations, Evelyn!
