This dog cooling scarves can help your pup beat the summertime heat
It’s no secret that hot weather can have a major impact on your dog’s health.
Unlike humans, dogs can’t sweat to cool off their bodies during hot days. These summer months, it’s crucial to pay extra attention to your dog’s behavior, Lauren McDevitt — the co-founder of Good Dog, an online network of breeders, shelters and educational materials vetted by doctors and veterinarians — tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
“As the weather starts to get warmer in the summer, dogs can suddenly become vulnerable to serious health issues related to temperature — this includes dehydration, heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and even sunburns,” McDevitt says.
There are tons of cooling products that can help your fluffy friend chill out (like dog cooling mats) that are reputable and have gotten tons of positive reviews. But, if you are looking for something a bit more portable, there are also cooling scarves that your dog can wear on the go.
“These products work by cooling off your dog through evaporative cooling — a similar process used by some air conditioning units,” McDevitt explains. “The cooling gear accelerates the rate of evaporation to cool the air surrounding your dog’s body. Evaporation can happen quickly so it’s important to keep your dog out of the heat, even if you’re using cooling gear.”
She notes that while cooling gear won’t prevent overheating, it can help bring down a dog’s body temperature.

If you’re worried that your dog might be overheating, McDevitt says you should look out for these signs: heavy panting, rapid heartbeat, increase in body temperature, excessive drooling or thirst, red gums, lack of coordination, vomiting or lethargy.
“It’s vital to remember that humidity, in addition to temperature itself, can result in your dog being unable to cool themselves down, which will quickly lead to overheating,” she warns.
Other ways that you can cool down your pup include having water, ice or doggy popsicles readily available.
