Fayetteville hot dog stand has a new restaurant, new menu items and new plans for the future

After four years of operating from its popular food stand, Jen and Mike Adams, owners of Dogslingers, have moved into a building on Raeford Road where they'll continue to serve the hot dogs and sausages that grew them a loyal following while adding new items to the menu.

"It's kind of that next step for us, to be able to serve people inside and sit at a table and enjoy the food, enjoy the atmosphere," Adams said. He said that they have seating for approximately 25 people.

The couple launched Dogslingers as a food stand at 3909 Ramsey St., selling hot dogs, sausages and sandwiches. Then, they added a second Dogslingers location, serving food from the window at 2801 Raeford Road. On Thursday, they opened Dogslingers at The Depot at the same location with seating inside

The Raeford Road restaurant is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Dogslingers will continue to operate a food stand at Lowes, 3909 Ramsey St., Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New items on the menu

Adams said the restaurant menu has expanded with the addition of soups and salads and he anticipates adding even more items once the "chaos" of opening the sit-down spot subsides.

"We'll be adding like a pork tenderloin sandwich — a 'horseshoe,' with Texas toast, hamburger patty and french fries covered in beer cheese sauce, which is very regional to central Illinois," Adams said.

He said Dogslingers sources its meats from Vienna Beef, a Chicago manufacturer that he said supplies most independent food carts in the city. Adams said that they also have Fayetteville's original Italian beef sandwich, a popular Chicago sandwich, which consists of roast beef that's flavored with Italian seasoning and it's all made in-house.

Adams said that they are building their menu week-by-week and plan to change weekly specials, starting this week with a lemon chicken orzo soup and a summer salad with fruits and a protein.

"We are still taking baby steps to build the menu and finish out the interior building," Adams said Wednesday.
