Dolly Parton and Miranda Lambert Recorded a New Duet and People Are Freaking Out
Dolly Parton ain't nobody's fool. Neither is Miranda Lambert. At least, that's what the country stars croon in their duet on the soundtrack of Netflix's Dumplin'. The album contains new and re-recorded Dolly Parton songs, including a powerful rendition of "Jolene." But for the remake of her 1967 hit, "Dumb Blonde," Dolly turned to none other than the "Got My Name Changed Back" singer.
"Well, first of all, I love Miranda, and I had not had the chance actually to get to know her," Dolly said to CMT when asked how their very first collaboration came to be. "We are fans of each other's, and she would talk about me different times, and I would talk about her, loving her … I guess it came from [the producers] if I would be willing to sing that with Miranda. I jumped at that chance."
The feeling is mutual.
"I love her," Miranda told Taste of Country Nights. "She's so quality. She's so deep. She's so talented. We really connected. We remind each other of each other in a way ... that rawness and that country soul feeling. We're just 'feeling' kind of people. I just somehow relate to her."
Dolly shared the "fresh spin" on Twitter, referring to Miranda as "my soul sister"-and people freaked out.
"My two favorite ladies, could not have sounded better thank you for making this remake sounds so sweet," tweeted one fan.
"I have waited so long for a duet by my two fav blondes," replied another.
In the CMT interview, Dolly went on to explain why the song is so special: "It was my first top 10 record [from the debut album, Hello, I'm Dolly] back in 1966 or 1967. Somewhere in there."
A behind-the-scenes clip shows the ladies having a lot of fun making music together.
"We had the chance to work together in the studio, and we just loved it," the superstar said.
Miranda's not the only female artist featured: Linda Perry co-produced the album, and Elle King, Alison Krauss, Sia, Mavis Staples, and Rhonda Vincent all lent their voices as well.
