Donald Trump says Meghan Markle 'was nasty to me' but 'I think she's very nice'
Donald Trump may not want to play nice with Bette Midler — whom he called a “washed-up psycho” in an angry tweet posted in the wee hours of Wednesday morning — but he appears to be trying to make amends with Meghan Markle.
Over the weekend, Trump made headlines for his remarks about the former Suits star, who called him a “misogynist” during the 2016 election. Though he later denied calling the duchess “nasty,” an audio recording of his interview with The Sun hears him saying, “I didn’t know that she was nasty.”
Just days later, the president met with the royal family at Buckingham Palace. Prince Harry, Meghan’s husband, was present for a private lunch on Monday and appeared to keep his distance from Trump.
But in a new interview with Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan — a past winner of Celebrity Apprentice — Trump insists that there’s no bad blood between him and the royals.
Did Donald Trump really call the Duchess of Sussex 'nasty'?
He clarifies his comment and says 'I think she's doing very well'.

“I didn’t know that she said anything bad about me, and it sounds like she did, and that’s OK,” he told Morgan. “Hey, join the crowd ... They said some of the things she said and it’s on tape. And I said, ‘Wow, I didn’t know she was nasty.’
“I wasn’t referring to she’s nasty, I said she was nasty about me. Essentially I didn’t know she was nasty about me. But I said, ‘You know what, she’s doing a good job, I hope she enjoys her life.’”
When pressed by Morgan, he added, “I think she’s very nice. Honestly, I don’t know her.”
He then went on to lash out at “phonies” in the media for, he claims, misrepresenting his words, which he then repeated. He also denied Morgan’s suggestion that his comments were “ambiguous.”
“That’s OK for her to be nasty, it’s not good for me to be nasty to her, and I wasn’t,” he insisted. “I think she’s doing very well.”
Trump also revealed that when he met Prince Harry, he “congratulated him.”
“I think he’s a terrific guy,” he said. Trump added that he was tempted to bring up the Meghan controversy, but the two men didn’t end up addressing the matter.
Of media reports that Prince Harry avoided him, Trump said that the royal “couldn’t have been nicer” and noted that he spent a lot of time speaking to Ivanka Trump.
