Donald Trump tweets support to Covington teen who is suing the Washington Post for $250 million: 'Go get them Nick'
The family of Nicholas Sandmann, the Covington Catholic High School student who was accused of taunting a Native American protester in viral footage in January, has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Washington Post for $250 million, Reuters reports. The 16-year-old’s lawyers claim that the paper “wrongfully targeted and bullied” him because he was wearing a red “Make America Great Again” cap in the confrontation during the March for Life anti-abortion rally in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 18. Sandmann has denied harassing activist Nathan Phillips, telling Today‘s Savannah Guthrie that he was “not disrespectful,” despite conflicting reports to the contrary.
The Kentucky teen’s lawsuit — and the large amount of damages he and his family are seeking — has been the talk of Twitter, with critics laughing it off and conservatives wishing them well. But the biggest supporter cheering him on is none other than President Trump.
Trump took to Twitter to lash out at the media — attacking it as “dishonest” — and weigh in on Sandmann’s lawsuit.
“Go get them, Nick,” he tweeted, adding his frequent refrain: “Fake News!”

Trump — who went on to slam the New York Times as “the enemy of the people” in response to its report that he is accused of trying to obstruct investigations against him — isn’t the only White House figure who has sided with Sandmann.
“I’ve never seen people so happy to destroy a kid’s life,” press secretary Sarah Sanders told Fox News’ Sean Hannity days after the March for Life protest, prompting some ridicule.
