Don't be scared of electric neon makeup — it's the hottest trend to try now
If there’s one beauty lesson to take away from New York Fashion Week, it’s that electric neon makeup isn’t just for ravers. Vivid shades of yellow, orange, blue, and green are actually flattering on all skin tones and work beyond the dance floor.
NARS led the charge on this trend, using painterly swatches to brighten models’ eyelids at Novis, Rachel Comey, and Delpozo. On the Fenty x Puma runway, we saw these dynamic tones extended to the manicures, with extra long, rectangular-shaped vibrant nails. MAC Cosmetics’s artists backstage at Chromat remixed the traditional inner-corner highlight by using an unconventional tangerine pigment near the tear ducts.
The key to pulling off electric neon makeup is to keep the rest of the skin glowy and fresh. Heavy black eyeliner or bold lipstick and blush would compete with the bright hues. A natural-looking highlight is OK. But if there’s anything we’ve learned from The Blonds and Christian Siriano, color-clashing with your clothes is fair game!
