'Downton Abbey' Cast Talks Reuniting & Entering 'A New Era'
Downton Abbey is back, back, back, back again!
After the success of Julian Fellowes' beloved, popular, and gay-inclusive television series' first cinema venture, the stacked Downton Abbey cast is reuniting yet again for a new movie sequel — aptly entitled A New Era — and this time, they're ready for their spotlight.
Picking up shortly after where the 2019's Downton Abbey film left off, A New Era takes viewers on a journey as Downton is used as the backdrop for a silent film called The Gambler. Viewers also get to travel to the beautiful South of France, as the Downton crew also has to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess' incredible, newly-inherited villa.
Out got the chance to speak with the cast of Downton Abbey: A New Era — including Hugh Dancy, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Allen Leech, Laura Carmichael, Hugh Bonneville, and Elizabeth McGovern —
"It does feel like it's a mildly momentous thing, which hadn't crossed my mind as a possibility, but when it comes up, you think, 'Really? Well, I need to wrap my head around that!' right?" newcomer Downton newcomer Hugh Dancy told Out about joining the cast for A New Era. "It's a big thing to jump into, but I loved it. I loved the character that I got to play. I love this world that intrudes on the preexisting world. I love the way that Julian wrote the relationship between the two of them. It felt very human, very natural. I mean, you know, it's, I don't know, flirtatious, whatever you wanna call it, but there's a lot more surrounding that that gave it context, which I enjoyed playing with Michelle. And then everybody else beyond that, Kevin, and all the others. So it was a treat."
Downton Abbey: A New Era is now playing in theaters.
