Drew Barrymore Surprises Heroic Bus Driver With Incredibly Generous Gift

Drew Barrymore had a special gift in store for a North Carolina school bus driver, Monica Tyson-Crawford, who has been hailed as a hero after her bus caught fire last month.

For those who missed it, on the Thursday, Dec. 21, episode of the morning talk show, Barrymore and TV personality Ross Matthews sat down with educator Laura Street and Tyson-Crawford, who has been credited with saving the lives of all 38 children who were riding on the school bus when it suddenly started to smoke and eventually went up in flames.

According to local news station WRAL, a spokesperson from the school district said Tyson-Crawford pulled over after smelling smoke around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, "She immediately went through safety protocols and removed all 38 children and herself from the bus before the fire."

After hearing from some of the Benhaven Elementary School students she protected during the scary event, and their parents, Barrymore and Matthews presented Tyson-Crawford with a delightful surprise.

In the spirit of the giving season, The Drew Barrymore Show teamed up with its partners at Five Below to give Tyson-Crawford a truly sensational thank you–and no, it's not a gift card.

On behalf of the nationwide chain of discount stores and the fan-favorite morning show, Tyson-Crawford was gifted a giant check valued at $10,000.

But that's not all–according to Barrymore, Five Below is spreading holiday cheer to all the families that were involved in the bus fire by sending gifts and toys to each and every one of them.

As Matthews later announced, Five Below is also set to donate a sleigh full of supplies to Benhaven Elementary School in Harnett County, North Carolina.

How sweet!
