Dua Lipa will 'do the theme song' for next Bond film, say Years Years
Details about the next James Bond film are still veiled in MI6-levels of secrecy, but one major piece of information might have just been leaked.
Singer-songwriter Dua Lipa, 22, has been asked to sing the film's theme song, synth-pop band Years & Years have claimed in a new interview.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Years & Years' Mikey Goldsworthy said he was disappointed not to have been chosen, after his band had made a short film called Palo Santo with two actors from the spy franchise, Judi Dench (who plays Bond's boss M) and Ben Whishaw (gadget-inventor Q).
"I thought they'd ask us to do the theme song, but alas it's Dua Lipa," Goldsworthy said.
"S---, am I not meant to say that?" he quickly added. "That's what I heard... I feel bad now, maybe I've ruined everything."
If so, this may not be the first time that Goldsworthy has accidentally jinxed a Bond theme.
"I saw Ben Whishaw in the the street – he used to live near me and [bandmate Olly Alexander] – and I was like, 'Who's doing the theme?' He said, 'Radiohead', and I told everyone! And they rejected it."
Radiohead recorded a theme for 2015's Spectre, but it was turned down by the film's production team for being too "melancholy", and a song by Sam Smith was used instead. The film's director Sam Mendes later said the situation was "an utter nightmare... we had this beautiful song and we weren't able to use it".
Lipa, who won two Brit Awards this year, has previously downplayed rumours that she has been asked do the next Bond theme. "I would love to do it, but I’m not recording it…so far," she said in May. "I don’t want to jinx it. I would love to do it.”
The as-yet-untitled film will be directed by Danny Boyle, and will see Daniel Craig reprise his starring role as Bond.
