Ed Sheeran 'Gutted' After Last-Minute Concert Cancellation Due to 'Safety Issue'

One of Ed Sheeran's recent concerts along his + – = ÷ x (Mathematics) Tour was cancelled merely an hour before the show due to a "safety issue."

The "Shape of You" singer's Las Vegas tour stop at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 9, was rescheduled to next month over concerns that the floor was unstable and could possibly collapse.

The flooring issue was reportedly brought to the musician's attention when Ed's team brought their gear and instrumental equipment in for the soundcheck, and it was determined after engineers attempted to rectify the issue, to no avail, that the show would not go on as planned.

The "rubber tiling had become unstuck causing two tall towers to slip overnight by about a foot each," according to The Sun.

"Health and safety is paramount at gigs of all magnitude and scale - but even more so at a 65,000-seater NFL stadium. The issue was with the floor, rather than the stage itself, but Ed and his crew battled for 24 hours to salvage the show," a source told the publication.

The source also noted that the "Lego House" artist was "obviously gutted they couldn’t make it happen, but it was completely out of his hands and the right decision to protect his fans."

Sheeran, himself, addressed the situation on Instagram, sending an apologetic note to fans: "I can’t believe I’m typing this but there’s been some challenges encountered during the load in of our vegas show. It’s impossible to go forward with the show. I’m so sorry. I know everyone has travelled in for this and I wish I could change it. The gig will be postponed to Saturday October 28th and all purchased tickets will be valid for that date. I’m so, so sorry x."

Several disgruntled fans aired their grievances over the inconvenience on social media, while others "understand that not everything is in our control," but either way, ticket-holders can look forward to the rescheduled concert date in a few weeks!
