Elizabeth Olsen Warns Future Marvel Stars Against Signing Multi-Movie Deals

Elizabeth Olsen revealed her secret to maintaining her creative control and power as an artist in Hollywood, and her advice may surprise you.

While appearing on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Olsen, 34, told host Josh Horowitz that upcoming Marvel stars–or anyone presented with an offer to star in or work on a major series–should refrain from agreeing to multi-picture deals on the spot.

"Just give them one," the WandaVision actress shared, repeating the advice she's giving fellow and to-be Marvel Cinematic Universe stars. "Just give them one [project], that's what I say."

While many up-and-coming and even well-established stars may agree to multi-movie contracts for any number of reasons, in Olsen's opinion, more often than not, these people find themselves relinquishing bargaining power and creative control over their careers and the characters they portray.

By only agreeing to one project at a time, she explained, actors "have more control."

"Let's say you're like, 'Oh my god, this was the most fun I've ever had, and I love this character so much, I want to do it again,' you now have more creative control for the next one." Olsen continued, joking, "Don't tell [David] Galluzzi that. [He's] business affairs at Marvel."

While the honest suggestion may seem like a top lesson in negotiation, it's not a phrase that every actor deems necessary. Some of Olsen's fellow MCU stars–like Tom Holland, Chris Evans, and Samuel L. Jackson–reportedly signed contracts with the studio for multiple projects at once, ranging anywhere from six to nine-picture deals.
