Ellen DeGeneres Shows Off Her New ‘Chicken Hotel’—and Fans Have Advice

After ending The Ellen DeGeneres Show, comedian Ellen DeGeneres is moving in a very different direction and opening up what a fan called a "chicken hotel!"

The 65-year-old and her wife, Portia de Rossi, set up a beautiful big chicken coop at their house, and DeGeneres took to Instagram to introduce fans to their chickens and the enclosure.

In the video, DeGeneres stood in front of the coop and said, "Today's the day. We've been waiting to do this for a while. We have chickens. We're very excited, and they're very excited."

She then shared a short tour, showing the chickens eating and a swing set up for them. DeGeneres told fans, "I'll update you with chicken watch on a regular basis."

A few of the chickens are named Brenda, Linda, Marge, Debbie, and Rooster, although she couldn't remember the others' names. She also tried to show them to fans, but it was hard to see through the wire screen.

DeGeneres captioned the clip asking for tips about raising chickens, writing, "Portia and I have been dreaming of this day for a long time, and it’s finally here. We have chickens! If you have any great tips for raising chickens please share them with me."

She thanked Dare 2 Dream Farms, who helped them set up the coop, before joking, "Clearly, I blurred out the chickens in this video to protect their privacy."

Luckily for DeGeneres, her fans had a lot of knowledge to share with her.

"As a fellow chicken owner, who is cleaning that chicken hotel? ?? 1. Let them free range. They’ll be happier," wrote one follower, before recommending she "Use them as a natural compost, they eat practically everything" and possibly "add ducks to the crew, it’ll reduce the flies."

Someone else said, "Paint the wire black. It’ll be 1000X easier to see the chicks from afar with no silver glare," many agreed.

"Chickens also love grass, Ellen. Love that you made them safe, but consider including some green patches for them as well. ??????," read a third tip.

It looks like DeGeneres and de Rossi have their hands full with their new chickens, but they seem very excited about the new venture!
