Ellen Pompeo Drops Huge Career News and 'Grey's Anatomy' Fans Instantly Lost It
The wait is over: Season 18 of Grey’s Anatomy is finally here. But if you’re still in need of more Meredith Grey in your life, you’ll want to tune in to actress Ellen Pompeo’s new "fun and enlightening" project — and that’s not an understatement.
On Wednesday, ahead of the hit longtime-running medical drama returning to ABC, the 51-year-old mother of three officially launched her new podcast Tell Me with Ellen Pompeo. Speaking with People, Ellen opened up about why she’s turning the tables and asking the questions, especially after saying no to past opportunities to put her voice out there.
"I feel like we're so divided right now and anything that connects us is a wonderful medium," Ellen told the magazine. "It's a way to bring people together. I listen to podcasts and think of things that I never thought of before, or have empathy for a situation after I've heard somebody's opinion about it or the way someone else thinks about something, as opposed to the way I think about it. So I'm hoping that this can be a connector of sorts and a teacher and a platform for people."

What’s more, Ellen kicked off her highly anticipated audio show by releasing the first three episodes, including one with her former Grey’s Anatomy costar Patrick Dempsey. "It was really fun to catch up with all his stuff," she told the outlet. "I mean, him and I talked privately obviously, but I think to give our fans 45 minutes of what our conversations look like when we do talk or when we hike or when we have lunch, that was pretty fun to be able to give the fans a little peek into what our conversations look like."
Upon hearing about Ellen’s latest project, fans instantly took to her Twitter comments to shower her with congratulatory messages and heartfelt words. “Is there such a thing as too hyped up? because that's exactly how i am right now. so proud of you, can't wait to see what you've even plotting ??,” one person wrote. “I’m here for it, mama! can’t wait for next Wednesday ??,” another added. “I was already smiling from ear to ear by just listening to your intro! I can’t wait for old/current cast members of Grey’s but also people who inspire you and who can inspire us in return! ??,” a different fan said.
Apart from Patrick, she also interviewed black-ish actress Yara Shahidi and New York Times bestselling author Michele Harper for the weekly podcast. When asked about the significance behind the show’s title, Ellen shared that she drew inspiration from her family.
"It's called Tell Me because it's about listening, which I think is something that everybody can benefit from doing. I tell my kids all the time, 'Listen more than you speak.' I think there's a lot of value in listening."
