Elon Musk Just Dropped an EDM Track. No, Seriously.
Elon Musk has taken some time out from inventing bulletproof apparel and accusing strangers of being paedophiles to focus on a more creatively fulfilling pursuit: making music. Perhaps inspired by the electronic oeuvre of his girlfriend, synth pop provocateur Grimes, Musk has just dropped the first truly terrible song of 2020.
It's called "Don't Doubt ur Vibe," and just as the track title suggests, it's a saccharine, soporific piece of blandly positive EDM that hits the ear like a glob of melted ice cream. Musk wrote the song and performed the vocals himself, and released the track via Emo G Records on SoundCloud, because while he may be one of the most influential, disruptive figures in the tech world, not to mention a multi-billionaire, apparently he still has the artistic sensibilities of a 13-year-old boy.
Of course, it's entirely possible that Musk was intentionally aiming for milquetoast musak. Perhaps when we're all living on Mars, this is what we'll be hearing in elevators.
In any case, the song's upbeat message certainly tracks with the year that Musk is having so far. Tesla stock is on the up, the last major test flight in the SpaceX commercial crew carrier program went well, and he won that pesky defamation suit. No wonder Musk is feeling himself.
Here are the lyrics to the song in full:
Don't doubt ur vibe
Because it's true
Don't doubt ur vibe
Because it's you
"Wholesome message," writes Richard Currie at The Register, "but unless you're about to sell PayPal, maybe doubt ur vibe just a little – there's nothing wrong with measured introspection."
