Entergy’s Bill Toolkit helping customers manage energy usage

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — With summer in full swing, temperatures are climbing, and Entergy understands that.

“We have some of the lowest rates in the country. Unfortunately, you see your bill creeping up because of usage. It’s really hot here. We saw incredible high heat last summer. It kept hurricanes away, but it also increased customers’ bills,” said Entergy New Orleans Vice President of Customer Service Nyka Scott.

According to Entergy, heating and cooling costs make up more than 55% of an average customer’s electric bill. With Entergy’s new bill toolkit site, customers can be helped out with tracking their energy usage.

“This app will allow you to monitor your usage every day. So, you can look at your usage and be like ‘okay I am creeping up a little bit, let me lower my thermostat or temperature,'” said Scott.

The company encourages users to participate, believing it could help provide assistance during a hurricane, especially through text.

“Sometimes we are not able to have internet access. If you have text access, we will be sure to text you in regard to outage information [and] when your power will be back on. You can also file a claim if your street is back on but yours is not back on,” said Scott.

For those who aren’t so tech-savvy, there are also other options.

“You can always call the 1-800-Entergy number if you are an older resident who doesn’t like to use an app or website. We are always there for our customers in multiple ways,” said Scott.

Scott also offered suggestions of some ways folks could decrease their monthly bills.

“Use blackout shades, make sure you change your air filter in your air conditioner. Pull your curtains too. Get a smart thermostat because you make sure the AC is up while you are gone and it can lower it a few hours before you get there,” said Scott.
