Erin Napier says 'mom humor' videos miss the mark: 'There are so many women ... who would kill to have that life'
Erin Napier has a message for moms.
The Home Town star — who shares daughters Helen, 5, and Mae, 1, with husband Ben — took to her Instagram Stories on Monday to share her thoughts on parental complaints.
"[Instagram] is always showing me videos of 'mom humor' where the moms are glib and whining about life with little children," she wrote. "Would love to see less of this. i know the difficulties and stresses of motherhood are real and taxing, but there are so many women in the world struggling w infertility who would kill to have that life."
She implored parents to "flip it on its ear and keep in mind how fleeting and special this hectic time is."
Napier has spoken about being sensitive regarding fertility issues before. In March 2020, she posted a picture of her daughter Helen on Instagram, explaining in the caption how asking someone why they don't have kids yet is not the kindest question.
"It's such an innocuous, harmless seeming thing to offer a mama who's missing the sweetness of babyhood as her toddler grows up," Napier wrote at the time. "And it seems so simple to offer that same advice to the couple who’ve been married 10 years. The truth is rarely that simple. There are women I love who want babies desperately and their bodies won't let them. Women grieving miscarriages that happen in secret. Couples trying to adopt, who keep finding disappointment through fostering when the baby is given back to drug-addicted mothers. People awaiting trips overseas to bring home a baby that feels like it will never come because of travel bans. Mothers in their 30s whose bodies have stopped making another baby an option suddenly. Please, I gently urge you. Think of those people before you offer that advice. That simple question can be so very hard to answer sometimes."
In December 2022, Napier faced unwanted speculation herself when she refused a cup of coffee on an episode of Home Town.
"Re: last night's episode, I am not expecting, I just don’t drink coffee," the mother wrote on her Instagram Story. "I will not be expecting. Y'all don't have to Google thinking we are dropping cryptic hints. There are no hints. Our family is complete. It is weird and a bit rude to constantly speculate if a woman is pregnant."
