Everything to Know About the 'Road House' Remake
Jake Gyllenhaal as Elwood Dalton in "Road House" (2024)
The original Road House became a cult classic thanks to its simplicity (and its ubiquity on basic cable): Patrick Swayze roundhouse kicking jerks out of a bar is pure bliss. The 2024 Road House remake looks just as promising.
The new Road House has some differences from its predecessor, namely in the diversity of its cast, which also includes actual UFC fighter Conor McGregor, as well as the film's setting (Florida instead of Missouri). But other elements remain, like protagonist Elwood Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) escaping his past and finding his footing as a bouncer.
Directed by Doug Liman (who previously helmed Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Swingers, American Made, The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow), Road House promises the same silly, badass nonstop action as the original—and then some. Here's everything to know about the new Road House movie, including how to watch.

When is the Road House release date?
Road House (2024) hits Amazon Prime Video on March 21, 2024.
Is Road House streaming?
The new Road House will stream exclusively on Prime Video beginning March 21, 2024.
To say that director Liman isn't thrilled about that would be an understatement. He penned a lengthy column in Deadline explaining that he created the movie for a theatrical release and that he believes it to be his best yet.
"My plan had been to silently protest Amazon's decision to stream a movie so clearly made for the big screen. But Amazon is hurting way more than just me and my film. If I don’t speak up about Amazon, who will? So here we go," he wrote in part.
"When Amazon bought MGM, one of the few remaining studios making big commercial films for theatrical release (movies like Bond, Creed) they announced that they would put a billion dollars into theatrical motion pictures, releasing at least 12 a year," he continued. "They touted it as 'the largest commitment to cinemas by an internet company.' I can tell you what they then did to me and my film Road House, which is the opposite of what they promised when they took over MGM."
Liman said he'd boycott the Road House premiere at the SXSW festival, not because he wasn't proud of his work, but to make a statement about how Amazon seemingly reneged on the movie's theatrical release.

Is there a Road House movie trailer?
In a clip released on Jan. 25, 2024, we see Gyllenhaal's character, a former UFC fighter who's down on his luck, become a "cooler" (essentially, a cooler—pun intended—word for a bouncer or peacekeeper) at a Florida bar at the behest of Williams. Soon, he shows Gage how to throw a punch, Gyllenhaal kisses a cute doctor, McGregor comes in and makes a hot mess.
