Fairport Fish Hatchery hosts Earth Day celebration
The Friends of the Fairport Fish Hatchery hosted their second annual Earth Day celebration on Saturday. The non-profit organization first was established in 2020 to share the stories of the historic Fairport biological center.
It also contributes to the community by creating awaerness about conservation efforts in protecting mussels and fish. The group is excited to build a new education pavilion that will allow people to stop by to learn, even when volunteer guides are unavailable.
“We have the foundation set and poured for the pavilion,” said Jim Elias, of the friends group. “Our intent is for that educational pavilion to look like a little bit of the old pump house, which was a very cool architectural building.”
The group is just short of its fundraising goal and continues to work on it with the Muscatine Community Foundation’s help.
