The First ‘Captain Marvel’ Trailer Is Finally Here and It Features a Blockbuster Video #TBT
You probably don’t need to read a bunch of words before watching the first official Captain Marvel trailer, which dropped Tuesday morning. So here it is:
OK. Great! Now, wasn’t that just amazing? Did you immediately watch it again for a second, followed by a third time? Have you texted your Marvel BFFs about it and dissected everything about the nearly 2-minute spectacle, like how incredible Brie Larson looks as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, Jude Law’s crazy eyes as Mar-Vell, and the overwhelming feeling of nostalgia that washed over you upon seeing Blockbuster Video in the opening seconds?
This, of course, makes perfect sense, seeing as the film is set in the mid-1990s, aka when everyone made weekly trips to the video renting giant to enjoy VHS (and snacks) for a low, low price. This explains why everyone’s clothes look a little looser when Captain Marvel finds herself at a subway station not long after literally dropping out of the sky and into Blockbuster Video. She can’t seem to remember her past as a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, but it’s Marvel and there will probably be a wonderfully satisfying scene of it all coming back. As previously revealed, Captain Marvel will include a nod to classic ‘90s action films like Terminator 2, so be on the lookout for that.
Captain Marvel, which also stars Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, Lee Pace, Gemma Chan, and Annette Bening, opens March 8, 2019.
