A First Look at the Dorchester's Fabulous New Features
In 1931, the Dorchester opened its grand doors to the public in the bustling heart of London, and for more than 90 years the hotel has built a legacy as one of the city’s most iconic social hubs. Now, for the first time in decades, the Dorchester is in the midst an extensive renovation, which will include a reimagined version of its elegant lounge space, the Promenade, along with a new installation called the Artists' Bar.
The Promenade, designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon, draws upon British landscape iconography—think white and soft sage green ceilings adorned with gold leaf accents, dark oak wood tables, and a collection of contemporary British art featuring depictions of nature. The overall essence of the space is crafted to make visitors feel as though they are sauntering through an English garden.
Nestled in one of the Promenade's plush banquettes, guests can indulge in platters of lobster casserole and buttermilk pancakes for breakfast, while the lunch menu consists of superfood salads topped with seasonal ingredients ,and dinner offerings include a host of options, from a signature chicken-and-langoustine pie to pumpkin-and-sage risotto, all curated by culinary director Martyn Nail. Perhaps the most exciting menu item of them all: the Dorchester's signature Crêpes Suzette, flambéed tableside.
As for the hotel's shimmering Artists' Bar, Lalique crystal designs and a glamorous mirrored piano are on display, making it the perfect place for entertainment (and, of course, Instagram brag). Cocktails, served from bespoke trolleys, are in conversation with the artwork on the walls, with each drink named after a specific piece.
And this is just the beginning—by March 2023, the Dorchester will reveal completely revamped rooms and suites.
