Get Your First Look at Vanessa Williams in the 'Devil Wears Prada' Musical

Vanessa Williams

Vanessa Williams made a groundbreaking debut in a first look at her new musical based on the 2003 novel and its subsequent award-winning film The Devil Wears Prada.

Williams is set to portray Miranda Priestly, the powerful New York City–based editor-in-chief of the fictional fashion magazine Runway, portrayed by Meryl Streep in the 2006 film adaptation of the iconic novel.

new preview of Elton John's upcoming musical adaptation had fans of the 60-year-old singer and actress stunned and shocked over the apparent resemblance between Williams as Priestly and Williams in her Ugly Betty era as the fictional Wilhelmina Vivian Slater.

Williams donned her chicest black dress–a Gold Label vintage dress designed by Vivianne Westwood–an array of gold accessories, a black Prada jacket, a beige Prada tote and red Louboutin sling-backs for the part.

In the brief clip, Williams strutted through fashion magazine's headquarters before finding a seat in her office, "Don't just sit there," she said while looking into the camera. "Buy tickets or something."

"From Mode to Runway!" one excited YouTuber wrote, referencing the fictional fashion magazine in Ugly Betty, where Williams also portrayed an EIC. "Looking forward to seeing the show in October."

"I cannot! Wilhelmina Slater is reborn as Miranda Priestly ?," someone else shared via Instagram. Similarly, another wrote, "O M G - The Wilhelmina Slater renaissance we deserve!"

"Thought it was MODE magazine at first," another added.

"i could throw up," a third joked.

"She’s an icon," someone else suggested. "That’s all I came to say??????."

Those looking to catch the performance this fall will have to buy a ticket overseas, as according to Variety, the production will be held at London's Dominion Theatre in London's West End in October 2024. There will also be a preview engagement sometime over the summer at Theatre Royal Plymouth.
