Food news: See what Fayetteville restaurants and food trucks opened or closed this summer
June and July brought several openings and closings in the Fayetteville-area food scene.
Two mall food court stands closed in Fayetteville and a burger drive-thru in Spring Lake served its last meal. A new restaurant and bar opened on Bragg Boulevard in Fayetteville, two food trucks made their debut, and a hot dog stand moved into a brick-and-mortar restaurant on Raeford Road.
Here’s a look at the latest comings and goings.
Stoner's Pizza opens on Legion Road
Florida chain Stoner’s Pizza Joint opened in mid-July at the former Dairy Queen Grill & Chill at 3035 Legion Road, Suite 110.
Located at the Legion Crossing Plaza at Legion and Black and Decker roads, the restaurant with references to pot culture does not sell food infused with marijuana or hemp products — at least, not yet — spokesperson Ashley Dempsey told The Fayetteville Observer in May.
Stoner's name originates from stone pizza ovens used at the original location in Charleston, South Carolina, which opened about a decade ago.
Now, Stoner's serves appetizers, salads, pizza, wings, stromboli, calzones and desserts from its 39 locations in the Southeast and Colorado.

PD Quix in Spring Lake calls it quits after 35 years in business
Drive-thru burger restaurant PD Quix closed its longtime Spring Lake store on July 15. A sign posted to the door read in part:
“Economic conditions and the difficulty of hiring and retaining staff has made maintaining this location untenable. We are very thankful for the loyalty of our customers and invite you to visit us at the Sanford location.”
PD Quix opened on an outparcel of Southwind Plaza in the early 1980s, according to county records.
Owner David Sears did not respond to multiple requests for comment Monday.
SimLo’s closes Cross Creek Mall stand
SimLo’s Jerk Hut in the Cross Creek Mall food court, a sister restaurant to SimLo’s Island Cafe on Boone Trail Extension in Fayetteville, closed late last month.
Owner Simone Atlan said mall management terminated her lease to make way for a national chain.

Manhattan Deli and Grill vanishes from mall food court
Manhattan Deli closed its stand in the food court at Fayetteville’s Cross Creek Mall this summer.
The longtime sandwich shop still operates its original 24/7 location on Village Drive; a Camden Road store; and a Raeford location on Great Lane, just west of Fayetteville.
Virginia restaurant chain Anchor Allie’s opens first North Carolina location in Fayetteville
Allie Stephens started restaurant chain Anchor Allie’s about a decade ago in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she owns and operates two locations. This summer, she brought Anchor Allies to the Tar Heel State with a new location on Bragg Boulevard in Fayetteville.
The restaurant and bar serve espresso martinis, waffles and burgers in a laid-back atmosphere that nods to the World War II era with midcentury decor and servers in pin-up girl-style uniforms.

Chef Kwon has a sweet new food truck
Kwons Kitchen Korean Fusion food truck is taking a brief hiatus as owner Vanessa McKoy prepares to take maternity leave, but the chef's daughter, Nevaeh Veal, 17, and nephew Kayden Veal, 15, are running her newest food truck focused on desserts.
Kwons Treats opened Wednesday in the Dogslingers at The Depot parking lot on Raeford Road. The menu includes candy-coated grapes and ice cream.
New food truck brings German favorites to Fayetteville
Harmon’s Deutsche Kuche opened earlier this month. The new German food truck serves weekend lunch from the Lidl parking lot on Skibo Road.
The menu includes meatballs, schnitzel, bratwurst, burgers and kids meals.
The Depot opens on Raeford Road
Popular Fayetteville hot dog stand Dogslingers has moved from its spot in the parking lot at 2801 Raeford Road into the recently renovated building on the property to open restaurant and retail space The Depot.
The Depot serves Midwestern favorites like toasted ravioli, cheese curds, Italian beef sandwiches and Chicago-style hot dogs from the restaurant’s new eat-in counter, dining room and walk-up window.
Hay Street Kitchen & Rooftop reopens at Kress Building
Hay Street Kitchen & Rooftop has reopened the upstairs cocktail bar in the historic Kress building.
The downstairs restaurant space is expected to reopen in August or September as Breakfast with Tiffany, a breakfast and brunch concept.
