Founders Day festival draws thousands of visitors
May 22—An estimated 7,500 people joined in the celebration of the City of Rockwall's 170th birthday this past Saturday at the 20th annual Founders Day Festival.
The festival grounds buzzed with activity as families enjoyed bounce houses, yard games, interactive animal shows, food trucks, and live music performed by Mike Ryan and the headliner, the Eli Young Band. Both acts are Texas bands who have climbed the charts both regionally and nationally.
"It was incredibly exciting to see the tremendous turnout for this year's Founders Day," Rockwall Mayor Trace Johannesen said. "It had to be our biggest yet, with a larger and more enthusiastic crowd than ever before. The applause from out-of-town visitors was especially heartwarming.
"I am deeply grateful to our citizens for showcasing why Rockwall is the Free Live Music Capital of North Texas," Johannesen continued. "A big thanks to Rockwall Parks and Recreation for flawlessly executing yet another fantastic event."
