Glenn Weiss, Hero is a Veteran Award Show Director
Glenn Weiss won big tonight-and of course we're not talking about the gold statue he's adding to his collection. The veteran awards show director used his opportunity on the Emmy's stage to propose to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen.
After calling her the "sunshine" of his life, he said "You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife."
The audience of celebrities burst into applause, and showing the perfect timing that few comedian had yet been able to summon that evening (cough Jost, cough cough Che), Weiss said, "I didn’t even ask yet."
He beckoned Svendsen up on stage a got down on bended knee with his mother's wedding ring. And again with perfect timing, he turned to the audience and said, "to my sisters and brothers, I didn’t swipe it! Dad knows I have it."
Svedsen, of course, said yes.
Weiss may not be a household name-or face-but this is not his first award show. He's a director and producer who, in addition to last year's Oscars, has directed the Tony's and the Kennedy Center Honors.
Svedson, for her part, is also an accomplished leader. According to her Linked-in profile, she is the Chief Creative Officer of the Charity Network, where she works on film projects for 2929 Entertainment and in business development for Charitybuzz and Prizeo.
She and Weiss may well have met in his work on the Tony's since she served for years as Director of Marketing for the Broadway League and the Tony Awards.
