"GOT" Actor and Audiobook Reader Passes at 94
British actor Roy Dotrice has passed away at the age of 94. Dotrice, a Tony Award winner for his role in A Moon for the Misbegotten, was also known to many as Leopold Mozart in the 1984 film Amadeus, and as Hallyn the pyromancer in Game of Thrones.
Dotrice's most notable Game of Thrones role was as the series's audiobook narrator. As the narrator for George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, Dotrice set a Guinness World Record for the most characters voiced by a single person, adopting 223 voices for the audiobook recording of A Game of Thrones. The total recording time: 33 hours.
In his youth, Dotrice had been a member of the Royal Air Force, and was held as a prisoner of war to Germany for years during World War II. He was appointed to the Order of the British Empire in 2008.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Dotrice had been cast as Maester Pycelle, a member of the Small Council at King's Landing, but had to pull out of the role due to health concerns.
Dotrice is survived by his three daughters Karen, Yvette, and Michele.
