Grandmother holds wanted man at gunpoint until police arrive: 'I knew what I was doing. I was in control.'

A 75-year-old grandmother from Athens, Alabama assisted police by holding a man on the run at gunpoint. As an added bonus, her grandkids now think they have the coolest grandmother in the world.

Marcia Black, a grandmother of four, was having dinner with two of her grandchildren on Monday when one, a 15-year-old named Allie Ruth Black, spotted a man at the end of their driveway, according to WAAY31.

Four hours before he ended up in Marcia's driveway, her son, Limestone County's District 3 Commissioner Jason Black, told her to be on the lookout. A stolen vehicle, which deputies clocked at going 120 mph, had crashed near her house after leading police on a high-speed chase. The suspect fled on foot, wearing just a pair of denim shorts and no shirt, The News Courier reported.

As Allie called 911, Marcia grabbed her rifle and met the suspect, later identified as Cameron Powers, 24, outside.

“I walked out and said, ‘Can I help you?’ and he said, ‘Yes, ma’am, I’d like to use your phone,'" Marcia said, according to WAAY 31.

Allie watched the scene from inside the house. Marcia asked Powers a question regarding the crash down the road.

"He said, ‘No, ma’am, I don’t know what you’re talking about,'" Allie said, according to WAAY 31. "And she said, ‘Well, I’m going to need you to lay down in the grass.’”

Marcia said she felt “just as calm as could be” while standing on her porch and pointing her rifle at Powers.

"I knew what I was doing," she said. "I was in control."

Powers started to inch toward the home and Marcia fired a warning shot into the air. Allie reportedly said that afterward, the man hit the ground "as hard he could."

Deputies arrived quickly, which was when Powers started to run, zig-zagging through a field. Officers apprehend Powers and he was booked in the Limestone County jail on a $6,000 bond. He was charged with auto theft and attempting to elude.

“Our jaws just dropped. We thought, ‘Wow, my grandmother is the coolest person on the planet," Allie said. "This is a story that I’m going to get to tell my grandkids one day."

For Marcia, it was "just another day."

"If something happens, you take care of it and that’s it," she said.
