Gwyneth Paltrow says 'basic tenets of wellness' are key to managing perimenopause
Gwyneth Paltrow is "open to anything" when it comes to managing perimenopause.
On Friday, the 50-year-old Goop founder connected with fans during an Instagram Story Q&A and answered a question about her journey with perimenopause, the female body's natural transition to its menopausal state.
“So many people have asked me this question today,” Paltrow, whose Goop website published a 2022 guide on how to ease symptoms of perimenopause, began. “My approach to perimenopause is really just to try to have good overall health, so good gut health, sleep, hydration, meditation, kind of all the basic tenets of wellness."
Even though the star has recommended unconventional wellness treatments such as coffee enemas and yoni eggs in the past, she said she is open to treating perimenopause with traditional Western medicine.
She told her followers to be "open to more allopathic interventions as well, especially as this thing wears on."
The actress said she is “really open to anything” and told everyone to “really follow their instincts and have robust conversations with their doctors.”
Women's health expert Dr. Jennifer Wider previously told Yahoo Life that perimenopause typically starts in a woman's 40s.
"The symptoms can vary from person to person but often include: changes in menstrual cycle, hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood swings, weight gain, disrupted sleep, foggy brain and changes in libido," she said.
During Friday's Q&A Paltrow was also asked how she feels about being credited with the term “conscious uncoupling" after announcing her divorce with ex husband Chris Martin.
"I definitely did not coin the phrase,” the Sliding Doors actress began. “I feel despite us taking quite a lot of s*** for it when we first announced that all these years ago, I feel very proud that we were able to, maybe, make some divorces a little bit easier, happier.”
Paltrow and Martin were married in 2003. After 11 years together, the pair announced their split with a now iconic Goop blog post titled with the phrase.
“It makes me feel pretty proud when people come up to me on the streets and say, 'thank you for introducing that concept because I've become good friends with my ex' I'm very happy that we were able to play a small part in that cultural shift," she shared. The actress and the Coldplay frontman share children Apple, 18, and Moses, 17.
This isn’t the first time Paltrow has stood by her decision to promote consciously uncoupling. In 2022, the actress responded to an Instagram fan and shared, "I really believe in conscious uncoupling. When you spend meaningful time with someone, it’s nice to have it morph into friendship. I don’t want to have bad blood with anyone, ever (if I can help it)."
