Rihanna as a Margiela-Clad Santa Claus Wins Best Dressed of the Week
Between red carpets and IRL sightings, here are the best-dressed celebs of the week.
Who: Rihanna
When: December 20, 2016
Why: It looks as though Rihanna is feeling the holiday spirit with a belt she could have pinched from Saint Nick himself. Of course, the belt is actually Maison Margiela, and Rihanna owns it with a blazer from the same designer and a Louis Vuitton purse. The Anti singer is a gift to us all, and best dressed of the week.
Who: Bella Hadid
When: December 16, 2016
Why: Kylie Jenner isn't the only young celeb taking inspiration from an early '00s Christina Aguilera these days. Hadid arrived at Kola House to celebrate her Paper magazine cover looking every bit as dirrty in a laced-up look from emerging designer Wesley Berryman.
Who: Viola Davis
When: December 19, 2016
Why: Davis attended a screening of her upcoming film Fences in New York City in an image of class and ridiculous beauty. Her Cinq à Sept one-shoulder gown fit her to a T, while her elegant accessories accent the look.
Who: Kate Middleton
When: December 19, 2016
Why: Kate Middleton gets festive in a red and green dress by Vanessa Seward, serving inspiration for anyone still stumped on their holiday look. She styled her frock with Alexander McQueen shoes to attend a Christmas party for volunteers at The Mix youth service in London.
Who: Sarah Paulson
When: December 19, 2016
Why: It's the holiday season, so it sequins everywhere just make sense. Sarah Paulson took note and wore a shimmering dress by Dolce & Gabbana to attend Late Night With Seth Meyers.
Who: Zendaya
When: December 20, 2016
Why: Fashion designers worldwide want style star Zendaya to wear their clothes, and the actress keeps that in mind for her own clothing line too. She wore a jumpsuit from her brand Daya by Zendaya, and now we can't get the velvet all-in-one off our wish list. Lucky for us, it's available to buy now and on sale for only $49.
Who: Janelle Monae
When: December 11, 2016
Why: What's black and white and red all over? Monae in her signature color combo, wearing Nicci Hou Collection and crimson lipstick at the 22nd Annual Critics' Choice Awards. With the harlequin print, her double buns, and a convincing case for the choker necklace, Monae wins best dressed of the week.
Who: Natalie Portman
When: December 15, 2016
Why: Portman's pregnancy style has been a pleasure to watch, especially in glamorous situations like the 21st Annual Huading Global Film Awards. The actress wowed in an empire waist Erdem gown adorned with crystals.
Who: Naomie Harris
When: December 15, 2016
Why: For the European premiere of Collateral Beauty, Harris wore a textured, ruffled and lace dress by Rodarte. Just another chapter in the book we like to call Naomie Harris: Rising Style Star.
Who: Constance Wu
When: December 11, 2016
Why: If this Johanna Ortiz floral look is just a peek into what to expect from Wu's style, we're guessing big things are on the horizon. The gown from the on-the-rise brand was the perfect choice for the 22nd Annual Critics' Choice Awards.
Who: Felicity Jones
When: December 10, 2016
Why: Jones might not play a princess like Leia in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but she dressed like one at the film's premiere in Hollywood. And who knows princess gowns better than Christian Dior? Nobody, that's who.
Who: Jennifer Lawrence
When: December 9, 2016
Why: Lawrence's press tour has been filled with Christian Dior, but she took a sweet respite with this look from Altuzarra. The mixed prints, coupled with this insane location at the at the L.A. photo call for her upcoming film Passengers, make the look simultaneously fun and sultry.
Who: Michelle Obama
When: December 04, 2016
Why: Looking like the holiday season personified (in the best way possible, of course) Michelle Obama wore a custom Gucci gown to the White House's Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. It's yet to be confirmed whether the unusual choice to wear an Italian designer to this event was a political statement, but we do know that FLOTUS does not take her sartorial choices lightly. It's safe to assume that up until January 20, she will continue to be a top contender for our best-dressed list (or she'll flat-out win the damn thing, it as she did this week). Her thoughtful affection for the fashion industry will be dearly missed.
Who: Rowan Blanchard
When: December 08, 2016
Why: For Coach's 75th anniversary runway show, Blanchard looked her usual self: highly stylish yet completely age-appropriate. We're impressed by the 15-year-old actress's contrasting textures, but we really love her makeup. She's owning pink eye shadow, a feat we have yet to accomplish.
Who: Zo? Kravitz
When: December 08, 2016
Why: Kravitz confidently strolled into the Coach pre-fall runway show wearing nothing but a sheer gown, underwear, and a few strategically placed patches. It's December, guys. So good.
Who: Aja Naomi King
When: December 08, 2016
Why: King walked the red carpet at the Vulture Awards Season Party in West Hollywood and proved that she's got the style chops to master the trickiest of dresses. A one-shoulder polka-dot number is not the easiest to wear, but this Roland Mouret look gives her body a long and lean shape—as if she needed any help.
Who: Willow Smith
When: December 06, 2016
Why: If you're going to hop on that lingerie-as-evening-wear train, do it like Smith. She paired a slinky lace camisole with a fur-trimmed maxiskirt (!), and then accessorized with quirky heels and a septum ring.
Who: Gigi Hadid
When: December 05, 2016
Why: To accept her International Model award, Hadid attended the 2016 British Fashion Awards looking like a total superhero. This sculptural Atelier Versace look may not be made for flying, though, so we'll settle for seeing it strut down a red carpet.
Who: Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid
When: November 30, 2016
Why: In an example of ridiculously good genes, the Hadid sisters walked Victoria's Secret's pink carpet arm in arm in matching metallics. They are Anastasia's Glow kit personified. Bella, dressed in Julien Macdonald, and Gigi, wearing a Camilla and Marc dress with DSquared2 heels, are dripping in sex appeal—which is only fitting given the event.
Who: Rihanna
When: November 29, 2016
Why: Rihanna attended the FN Achievement Awards to receive the accolade for Best Shoe of the Year, her Fenty x Puma creepers. Unsurprisingly, she wore her collection but doused herself in diamond jewelry and topped it off with a dad hat. Who else could do that on the red carpet and get away with it?
Who: Jennifer Lawrence
When: November 29, 2016
Why: We're calling this look "Cinderella When Cold." Lawrence, in Maria Grazia's debut collection for Christian Dior, is wearing the most reasonable outfit for a winter formal: a frilly dress with a cashmere sweater. We're sold.
Who: Naomie Harris
When: November 28, 2016
Why: ELLE staffers have their hang-ups about the going out top, but Naomie Harris is making a convincing case for its comeback in Monse at the 26th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards.
Who: Natalie Portman
When:November 29, 2016
Why: Natalie Portman joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show to promote her super buzzy film, Jackie. While the former first lady was the epitome of poise and style, Portman's custom Brandon Maxwell dress is giving Mrs. Onassis a run for her money.
Who: Sasha Lane
When: November 28, 2016
Why: Lane managed to make a plain brown fur stole look cool on the red carpet, far from its usual WASP-y vibe. She wore this Valentino look to the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City.
