The actress credits her mother with helping her prioritize skincare: "She taught me everything she knew."

Hailee Steinfeld has her skincare routine down to a science.

Having acted since she was 10, she has spent countless hours having makeup applied, and, thanks to her mother, had the proper tools to remove it.

“The only thing that ever took [makeup] off was my Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes,” Steinfeld tells PEOPLE exclusively. “To this day I have them in every bathroom, and I feel like probably in just about every bag I've got.” In her teens, the star also swore by the brand’s Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. “It was on my vanity thanks to my mom,” she says.

Now, in what Steinfeld calls a “full circle moment,” she’s partnering with the skin care brand she grew up using to launch its Collagen Bank Moisturizers, which seem to have been tailor-made for where she is in her journey.

“Since working with Neutrogena, my knowledge of collagen has grown immensely,” she says. “I’ve learned that we lose 1% of our skin's collagen each year starting in our twenties. I’m 27 years old — this is the product I need right now more than ever.”

Steinfeld, who’s been using Neutrogena’s Collagen Bank SPF 30 Moisturizer Sunscreen during the day and its bakuchoil-spiked version in the evening for a couple of months now, says it was easy to weave the day and night creams into her routine because she’d already developed good skin habits inspired by her mother.

“She has always been so conscious of what she puts on her skin, and I've always been aware and appreciative of that,” Steinfeld shares. “I have these moments all the time where I realize I'm not 12 anymore — I'm 27 — and thank God that she taught me everything she knew whether directly or indirectly, because I'm now at a point in my life where it matters to me.”

Neutrogena’s Collagen Bank duo bottles up eight years of research to support the skin’s collagen, which makes up 70% of its foundation. Each formula contains peptides two times smaller than those traditionally used in skincare, which results in it penetrating more than 10 layers deep for effective and noticeable results.

The proof is in Steinfeld’s glow. “[Today} my skin is looking great, and I feel like that's a huge testament to the few products that I'm using, Collagen Bank being two of them.”

These days, Steinfeld says she’s embracing discovering what works for her.

“One of the things that I've come to recognize is the importance of falling in love with taking care of yourself and taking care of your skin,” she says.

“I feel like while there is maybe a negative connotation to aging, this is a time in our lives where we can focus on pre-aging and making that a process that we fall in love with.”

Overall, Steinfeld says, her approach to skincare is “less is more. My skin will freak out otherwise. So I have my key products and I love to do a Hydrafacial every now and then.”

Of her day-to-day regimen, Steinfeld says, I never leave the house without [having applied] the Collagen Bank SPF 30 Moisturizer, and then I end my day with the Collagen Bank Moisturizer. Of the rest, she says, “when I wake up and the first thing I do is scrape my tongue. Rebecca Faria (of Detox by Rebecca Beverly Hills) taught me that.

She continues, “After that I brush my teeth, cleans really well, apply moisturizer than make this incredible lymphatic tea [Faria created]. I don't drink caffeine, really, unless it's an espresso martini, but that's another conversation!”

All of those things, plus a workout, “play into my wellbeing,” Steinfeld says.

The star says she’s become “more mindful” about her steps before bed.

“It’s turning on some calming music, putting every device on ‘do not disturb,’ and taking the last few moments before I get in bed to cleanse. Literally and metaphorically, just get everything off of my skin.”

“And then when it comes to applying products, taking my time and not just slapping it on my face, putting on my really cute PJ set and then crawling into bed.
