Hallmark Is Casting For A Brand New Holiday Cookie Competition, And The Winner Will Get $25,000
If it feels like every other Hallmark holiday movie centers around a seemingly mismatched couple who falls in love in a bakery setting of sorts, that's because, um, it's kind of the truth. Hallmark has the market cornered on that particular plot line:
Woman runs bakeshop struggling to success in modern world, and city slicker man comes in to shake things up. They fall in love.
Woman's aunt breaks her arm before town's yearly cookie crawl. Troubled and moody man falls in love as, together, they save the day.
Woman baker enters contest to create state's best gingerbread house. Unwilling townie man gets roped in to the competition...and woman's love life.
Apparently, there's something super romantic about a baked good. But, as Hallmark, is now realizing, it's also that competition, real or fake, that gets viewers hooked. So this year, for the first time, the network is launching its own baking competition. The news was announced in March at Hallmark's upfronts in New York City, but casting calls are just beginning to go out.
Call-outs from Wyldside Media are hitting casting call sites. The show will be shooting in Los Angeles from July 29 to August 4, and it appears that's the location from where talent is being sourced. Here are the details:
"Do your friends and family tell you your Christmas cookies are the very best? Are people always asking you for your cookie recipes? Are you confident in your creative abilities in the kitchen? If you have a talent for baking and are ready to put your skills to the test, we'd love to hear from you! We're looking for dynamic, outgoing cookie-makers from Southern California to participate in a really FUN new Christmas competition baking show! The challenges will be everything from visual and decorative, to taste and overall presentation! Follow the link and tell us why you deserve to partner up with some of your favorite Hallmark Television stars for a chance to win $25,000 in this fun and festive new competition series on the Hallmark Channel."
The show will be titled "Christmas Cookie Countdown," and it'll air over the course of five episodes. Amateur bakers from across the U.S. will create cookies to be judged by a panel of three pastry chefs, whose names have not yet been announced. The hosts will rotate, and they'll all be stars of Hallmark original movies and series. You'll be able to catch the show on Hallmark Drama, one of Hallmark's three channels.
With at least one other reality show in the pipeline, it seems Hallmark is really leaning in to this whole real life thing. Then again, maybe this is all just fodder for their next movie. Local woman attends casting call for brand new holiday baking championship. So does her nemesis. You can smell the sugar and love in the air.
Lacey Chabert? Candace Cameron Bure? You free? I think this could be a winner.
