Albuquerque
August 9 Albuquerque BioPark Family Picnic Night – Guests can enjoy food, activities, and live music throughout the night. There will be six different stages set up, each showcasing local bands.
August 9-10 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.
August 10 Montgomery Pool Doggy Paddle – Albuquerque Parks and Recreation is giving your pup a chance to cool off this weekend. Saturday, the department is hosting a “Doggy Paddle” event at the Montgomery Pool. The city says all dogs must be shampooed and rinsed on site before jumping in, have a microchip or collar tag with their owner’s information and stay on a leash when outside of the pool.
August 10 – The Latin Explosion Music Festival and Car Show – The event will take place at 12 p.m. at Balloon Fiesta Park. There will be live performances by The Dazz Band, NB Ridaz, Sly Slick & Wicked, Angle of the Cover Girls, Gonzalo Nuevo Mariachi, Flamenco Dancer and more. There will also be over 100 classic and custom lowriders. For more information, click here.
August 10 Mariachis de Nuevo Mexico night – The Mariachis take on the Sacramento River Cats at Isotopes field. The first 3,000 fans 16 and older will receive t-shirts and the night ends with a fireworks show.
August 10 Neighborhood Open Space Community Concert – Elovated Roots performs at the Tijeras Biozone Open Space beginning at 6:00 p.m.
August 10 Humble Coffee’s 10th Anniversary Birthday Bash – Celebrate Humble Coffee at their Lomas location from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
August 10 Bosque Education Guide – The curriculum provides classroom-based and field activities for students in grades K-12. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park.
August 10 Downtown Growers’ Market – This happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Robinson Park.
August 10-11 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.
August 11 Old School Day at the Rail Yards Market – Great food, smooth jams, and a classic car show happening at the Rail Yards Market from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
August 14 Albuquerque Songwriters’ Cooperative Open Mic Night at Ancora – Every Wednesday night, Ancora Cafe and Bakery offers an open mic from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

August 9 Friday Morning Throwdown Group Ride – This event by the Taos Mountain Bike Association hosts this event beginning at the El Nogal Trailhead in Taos beginning at 7:00 a.m.
August 9 Taos Back-to-School Vaccinations – NMHealth’s Taos Public Health Office will be providing free back-to-school vaccinations for all children aged 18 and younger regardless of whether they are a patient or have insurance.
August 9 Make and Believe Time – This kids’ art and story time inside Meow Wolf Santa Fe begins at 10:00 a.m.
August 10 Saturday Farmers Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.
August 10 Farmer’s Market in Alamogordo – Check out offerings from local farmers, crafters, bakers, and more from Otero County. Runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
August 10 Pokemon Tournament – Duke City Games in Rio Rancho is hosting this event from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
August 10 ArtsCrawl Family Craft – The NMSU McKinley County 4-H is hosting this event at the El Morro Theatre and Events Center in Gallup beginning at 7:00 p.m.

New affordable housing complex breaks ground in southwest Albuquerque – The Route 66 Flats near Central and Unser will have 47 one-bedroom units for people with disabilities, mental or behavioral needs, and who earn less than 18,150 a year. Officials working on the project hope it will help Albuquerque residents exit homelessness.\
?? Advertising once again allowed on Albuquerque city buses – City council passed rules last year prohibiting wraps on buses in order to give them a uniform appearance. The effort was spearheaded by former Councilor Isaac Benton who did not seek re-election to this year’s council.
?? New Mexico State Fair adds additional seating for Becky G concert – Fair officials decided to open up additional seating due to the concert’s high demand. “Considering Becky G’s show has essentially sold out, we didn’t want anyone to miss out on what promises to be an electrifying concert,” General Manager Dan Mourning said in a release.
?? New scholarship available for Indigenous students studying film at UNM – The Department of Film and Digital Arts announced the scholarship is specifically for Indigenous students. It’s to support those students and a new course called Indigenous People on Screen.
?? Albuquerque city council approves e-bike, scooter ordinances – At Monday’s city council meeting, residents gave mixed feedback on the ordinance. Some said e-bikes would expand the accessibility of the trails, while others said it could cause injuries and trail deterioration.
?? Museum of Nuclear Science and History opening new exhibit – The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is unveiling a new exhibit: Mission Aerospace. The new exhibit is a multi-layered, interactive exploration of aviation history and aerospace milestones. The new exhibit opens June 22 and runs through October 6.
?? Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance (AREA) helps secure company expansion into Albuquerque – This will be Spring Oaks Capital, LLC’s first expansion outside of its headquarters in Virginia. The company will be located at 4420 The 25 Way. Spring Oaks Capital, LLC, has already hired about 35 new employees, with plans to hire about 200.
?? City of Albuquerque providing food, clothes for families in need – The City of Albuquerque has several resources available for families who may need assistance with food and clothes during the summer. Resources include summer youth programs, clothing banks, and food assistance.
?? City of Albuquerque looking for volunteers to help monitor trails – Trail Watch volunteers work under the Open Space Division and report wildlife and visitor activities, maintenance needs, suspicious activity, and other information. Training and a background check are required to become a Trail Watch Volunteer.
?? Explora hosting Mosaic of Marks, Words, and Material exhibition – The exhibition runs from May 15 – August 16. The exhibit will include an art studio where young visitors, their families, and educators can explore hands-on mark-making materials.

?? New Mexico-based clothing brand heading to Milan Fashion Week – The New Mexico-based clothing brand Hopeless + Cause Atelier is being shown in Italy during Milan Fashion Week. There, they will be presenting “La Vita e un Dono – A Hopeless + Cause Atelier Runway Show.”
?? Five delinquent property tax auctions scheduled in August – The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department is holding delinquent property tax auctions in Roosevelt, De Baca, McKinley, Curry, and Los Alamos counties. Registration for the auctions is available in person at 8 a.m. on the day of the auction.
?? Bat tests positive for rabies at Bandelier National Monument – A bat found dead in the Bandelier National Monument tested positive for rabies, marking the first confirmed rabies case of the year for northern New Mexico. The dead bat was found in the Cottonwood Picnic Area on July 7.
?? Jemez Historic Site celebrating Pueblo Independence Day – The day commemorates the anniversary of the Pueblo Revolt in 1680 when Pueblo’s joined one another to rebel against Spanish colonizers. On Saturday, August 11 the historic site is kicking off the celebration with an early morning 13-mile run from the plaza in Jemez Pueblo to the Jemez Historic Site.
?? Manzano Mountains State Park debuts ADA all-terrain track chair – The chair is expected to allow more visitors to access the park and was made possible by support from Ford Motor Company through the Bronco Wild Fund to increase access in America’s State Parks.
?? NM Department of Health reports first West Nile Virus infection of 2024 – The New Mexico Department of Health confirmed New Mexico’s first West Nile Virus infection of the year. The DOH said a person in Union County was infected but was not hospitalized and is recovering at home.
?? New Mexico’s Office of Housing seeks staff to help address growing unhoused population – The newly created office aims to improve housing availability and affordability across the state. The office is also tasked with creating a coordinated response to the growing number of unhoused individuals.
?? Social workers present survey findings to New Mexico lawmakers – Representatives from New Mexico Highlands University’s Center for Excellence in Social Work presented their findings from a recent survey of social workers across the state. Some of those findings show that 91% of participants are committed to the profession, but 38% also say that they have considered leaving social work.
?? Precautionary water advisory lifted for the Ruidoso Water System – The precautionary advisory was originally issued on June 18, 2024, in response to the impact of the Salt and South Fork wildfires. NMED worked with the Village of Ruidoso during recovery efforts and has lifted the advisory for the Ruidoso Water System.
?? New Mexico opts into free IRS federal tax filing program – The state has agreed to join the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) Direct File program, which will allow many taxpayers to file their federal taxes for free directly with the IRS online. An expected 200,000 New Mexicans will be eligible to use the free online filing tool next filing season.
