HBO's Most Popular Shows Are Available to Stream for Free Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic
Millions of Americans will have to stay indoors as much as possible for some time, and HBO is doing its part to provide in-home entertainment. The premium cable channel has announced that a lineup of its original series, documentaries, and movies will be available to watch on HBO GO and HBO NOW without a subscription.
"My bosses want me to tell you these series will be available to stream on HBO NOW and HBO GO for free starting tomorrow," the channel tweeted yesterday, followed by a list of the shows that were included in the "#StayHomeBoxOffice" initiative: Ballers, Barry, Silicon Valley, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Succession, True Blood, Veep, and The Wire.
In addition, HBO announced that a some of its original documentary programming would be free to stream. Those are The Apollo, The Case Against Adnan Syed, Elvis Presley: The Searcher, The Inventor, Jane Fonda in Five Acts, I Love You, Now Die, McMillion$, True Justice, United Skates, and We Are the Dream.
Some theatrically-released films will also be made available—including Isn't It Romantic, The Lego Movie 2, Smallfoot, Detective Pikachu—but a full list has yet to be revealed.
While there's plenty of old content for viewers to enjoy, and still new shows premiering in the short-term, fans may soon be looking at a dearth of new TV. Movie and television productions alike have been forced to shutter amid the pandemic, and it's not clear when they'll be able to resume filming. HBO hasn't been immune to this, and has shut down any ongoing productions and postponed the start of others, including Succession and Barry.
