Hey, Good Lookin’, Dolly Parton Meal Kits Are Here!
Dolly and her sister Rachel partnered with Home Chef to celebrate the release of their new cookbook, "Good Lookin’ Cookin’: A Year of Meals."
Dolly Parton always has her hands in something. But her newest venture, a joint cookbook with her sister, Rachel Parton George, feels different. You could hear the excitement in their voices when they spoke with Southern Living last week. They talked over each other in that sisterly way, laughing constantly while poking fun at themselves and each other.
“We managed to make a business of our pleasure!” Dolly said of Good Lookin’ Cookin’: A Year of Meals, their new cookbook, out today. The sisters named it after the classic country song by Hank Williams, “Hey Good Lookin’” which they have a habit of singing any time they walk into each other's kitchen.
“Dolly sings it really loud,” Rachel notes.
Packed with more than 80 dishes as well as photos of Dolly and Rachel hosting holiday gatherings, the cookbook feels like a window into what the Parton family cherishes most: coming together and sharing good food.
“We both love to eat, we both love to cook,” Dolly says. “One day it just hit us, let’s do a cookbook! Everybody’s doing one. They're popular, and they’re good, and nobody’s food is going to be any better than ours!”
Partnering with Rachel was no accident. The country legend counts her younger sister as the best cook of her 11 siblings.
“And I’m not saying that just because we have a cookbook… that’s why we have a cookbook!” Dolly adds. “Rachel has a way of making food taste really good but also look really good. A lot of Southern women don’t have that knack. Because usually if it tastes good it’s not always pretty the way you throw it together. But Rachel has a way of doing that.”
To celebrate the release of Good Lookin’ Cookin’, Dolly and Rachel partnered with Home Chef. For a limited time, the meal delivery service will be adding a few of the pair’s recipes to its menu, shipped to homes nationwide in fun, branded packaging. The meals include:
Fried Chicken and Gravy with Dolly & Rachel’s Mashed Potatoes
Family Favorite Meatloaf with Southern Green Beans
Sirloin Steak with Blue Cheese Butter, Broiled Potato Wedges and Broccoli
Country Fried Trout with Purple and White Slaw
Barbecue Chicken Breast with Spicy Mayo Corn
Meals will change weekly and come in a variety of formats to suit all types of food enthusiasts—including the classic Meal Kit, Express Plus, and Culinary Collection. The recipes are easy to follow and most ingredients come pre-measured, which Dolly appreciates.
“I measure like my mama,” she admits. “I know exactly how much to know, I know by feel, by pinch. I just put my hands in there like mama always did and just throw it in there, a pinch of this, a dollop of this…”
Rachel, who, unlike Dolly, always measures when she’s cooking, likes how easy the kits are.
“I love Home Chef,” she says. “You have everything ready to go, and that is so important. Especially when you’re busy. And we’re all busy, everyone’s busy. And you don’t always want to go out, not that I mind going out to eat…”
To celebrate the partnership, Home Chef is offering 18 free meals and free shipping for new customers who use the code “GETCOOKIN.”
The meal kit service is also offering the chance to win a $150 gift card and a copy of Good Lookin’ Cookin’ by tagging someone you love to cook with (or for) in the comments of Home Chef’s Instagram post (above) before October 18.
